Visible Invisible

Visible Invisible embraces death and the beauty of life. Using Jo Spence’s “The Final Project”, and Robert Houser’s “Facing chemo” as a roadmap to question how stereotyped a sick person can be, “Visible Invisible” investigates the fragility of being alive and delivers a fresh perspective on the theme. By treating Robert, a 25-year-old cancer patient as a fashion model, and using portraiture and tools like his feeding tubes, medicaments, fabric, and beliefs like plants, religion as well as words of hope from his family and friends.

Invisibility is often embraced by people suffering from illness. Many end up hiding behind the disease, becoming its image. Robert is completely the opposite, he became a stronger, more beautiful, and more alive person. This is the message this body of work seeks to share with the viewer; a message of hope and aspiration for those who encounter it.
