Visible Invisible
Visible Invisible embraces death and the beauty of existence. Using Jo Spence's "The Final Project" and Robert Houser's "Facing Chemo" as a guide to explore how stereotypical a sick person may be, "Visible Invisible" investigates the fragility of life and offers a new viewpoint on the subject, by portraying Robert, a 25-year-old cancer patient, as a fashion model and including portraits, instruments such as feeding tubes, medications, fabric, and religious convictions such as plants, spirituality, and messages of optimism from his family and friends.
People suffering from illness frequently prefer invisibility. Many people end up hiding behind the condition, adopting its appearance. Robert is the polar opposite; he has grown in strength, beauty, and vitality. This is the message that this body of work aims to convey to the viewer: one of optimism and aspiration for all who come across it.
